Easter Sunday @ Via Dolorosa~ Stations Of The Cross

For those of us who spend alot of time in SL, it's good to take the time to relax, reflect, meditate and contemplate. (Whether your church is a forest grove or a chapel)

But here is a place that if you are not "mainstream Christian" ,yet spiritual, and especially if you are, you could really appreciate Via Dolorosa, which in Latin means “Way of Grief” or “Way of Suffering". A virtual depiction and experience of the Stations of the Cross. I am a universalist , with a strong emotional connection with the life of Jesus. I found that even if you believe the story is a parable or you take it as 100% literal or you just think it might have a different ending to the story. The story has many parts to reflect on. Another perspective is historical. If you enjoy sims created with historical and cultural intention, this is also a good one to visit.
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Via%20Dolorosa/90/185/23
I met with namssab1nad Piers for a tour of Via Dolorosa on Easter Sunday The city is a combination of old and new Jerusalem. As far as from a build perspective; done very well. Authentic, well put together. A definite labor of love that took approximately 5 months to create. Owned by Arke Lethecus; several builders including namssab1nad Piers, Electra Karsin and Gin Galtier have worked to create this special sim.

There are 14 stations with signs giving you guideposts along the way. At station 2 you receive a cross to bear and walk the path that is said to be the path Jesus followed. The animation is impressive; created by Electra Karsin. I recommend wearing pants to appreciate the full visual affect. Many visitors have had very moving experiences touring the Stations of the Cross, including myself. If you are the kind of person touched by this sort of thing, when you see your avi struggling to carry the cross and stumbling you will be glad the scripting is carrying you thru. I write my blogs "in real time", but found it difficult here, but I am a deeply spiritual person.

Station 2 is very beautiful, with a little chapel at the back that I spent some time in.

The walk ends at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. There is a sign giving a URL for a video of the Crucifixion and a teleporter to the Cathedral, Calvary and the shops.
Although the sit anims aren't quite ready in the Cathedral it is definitely the kind of place that invites you for a contemplative rest.

Up on the hill across from the Cathedral is Calvary hill. You will see it when you land at the teleporter. It kind of makes you catch your breath for a moment. The rays of light that cast onto the hill create a very ethereal feeling. There are prayer animations in front of the crosses if you wish to take a moment of silence there.

Around the side of the hill is the Tomb.....the vision of the "stone rolled away" has always been very meaningful to me. And they captured it well. The pictures I have added here show it so much better than I can describe.

Across the field is Electra Karsin shop Sacred Fish and namssab1nad Piers shop The Light. Both are still in construction. They create religious decor,  accessories and furniture, including Rosary beads, Monk AO and lovely Crosses.

This is a destination that deserves a visit. And visit they have! Amazingly hundreds of people
have toured in just a few days. People want to fulfill
every aspect of their second life too. Is your second
life well rounded? :)

Rockin Out @ BJ's Legends Blues/Jazz Club

I love Blues and Jazz, but so many of the Jazz clubs in SL are kinda couples places...and I'm not part of a couple in SL, so I feel uncomfortable going to some of the good clubs alone. Still when I got the notice for BJ's Legends Blues/Jazz Club I thought I would check it out. Glad I did. Great music, great DJ, great hostess. Jazzy, the hostess has a excellent dance HUD! I want it! I felt comfortable right away and not out of place being on my own. (yea that is me in front as a blonde!)

BJ's is just 6 days old but this isn't their first gig. They know what they are doing. Bob and Justme collectively have  over 11yrs of DJ and club management experience between them.

They are available for events and have their own high bandwidth stream for the most excellent sound.

Contact Bob Corrigible or justme34 Pearl. See their profiles for a lot more info on what they are up to and where to hear them. And stay connected on their Subscribe-O-Matic group.

Their moto is "Your pleasure is our priority". Judging from the stream Justme ran tonight, they speak the truth:)

And if you don't have a dance partner like me :) well there's always their dancing frog.

Come and check them out tomorrow from 4-6 for their Christmas party Dec.10th.

Classical Music In SL

I am at an amazing and enjoyable live violin concert by young Zeid and Izabela Jaworower @ Music Island on Sea Turtle Island. This is the first I have known of this in SL. This is just going to be a short post sharing the information. But not for lack of  interest. I will be here often.

Christmas Expo For Relay For Life!

Lots of Christmas markets going on. In the past when I tried simply using search I couldn't hardly find any really good Christmas markets. But now being in the right groups and blogging I find out about all the best places. But this year SL's Christmas expo to support Relay for Life, the largest non profit source for cancer research funding, from Dec. 3rd ~ 18th. is the big news.
Sponsored by: Michigan’s Shack,Maven Homes,What Next, Earth & Sky Designs, Chop Zuey,
Agnes Finney,LeeZu,PurpleMoon,Garden of Dreams,UrbanizeD,Park Place Home Decor and last but not least Bliss Couture.

The first shop I dropped by was Dashwood. Very pretty holiday dresses for ladies and little girls. If your planning a Christmas wedding this might be the place to get your gowns!  Dashwood has several gifts by the tree for 25~ 0L. And these aren't outdated crap. There's a lovely purple one on the table in front of the tree.
Yep skittles, thinking of you:)
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Poinsettia/186/99/23

I discovered a awesome jewelry store I had never seen before called Rook Hold. High quality jewelry in many styles; zodiac, tribal, pagan, holiday and native. Some unique pieces like initial pendants, ID bracelets and soulmate rings.

Need something hot for those cold winter nights? Blacklace Lingerie has some sexy holiday designs for you. Love the Santa Baby set. Two free gifts under the tree too! Right next door you will find Styles by edo. Great men's formal wear. Very nice work in everything from festive colors to classic and lots of different saddle shoes to match.

Down past there on the right of the Christmas scene in front of Sincerely Yours . There's a particularly special Relay for Life board. They are featuring a Christmas in SL music CD. 100% of the proceeds go to Relay for Life. Inside Sincerely Yours are some wonderful gifts. Music boxes, snow globes, miniatures, Christmas cards,
photo albums, jar candles, beautiful white holiday fireplace and more. I have never seen a tree with a snowman tree topper. It is adorable along with the silver train underneath.

There's a Meeroo Shop! Not only have they put up their regular Meeroo items for Relay for Life donations
but seasonal Meeroo decor and some clothes as well. Want a unique holiday outfit, check out the Drummer Boy dress. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Silver%20Bells/232/215/23 Earth & Sky has a big shop set up here with excellent holiday outfits as usual. Free men's and women's winter coats under the tree.

This is no small market, it covers 4 regions, so if you come to the teleport boards to get you around to all the great shops quicker. Sometimes tho its nice to stroll thru holiday markets. They've done a great job here creating a whole holiday mountain top town really, not just a market. You can see the sites on a carriage ride around town if you get tired of walking and carrying all those shopping bags.
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Silver%20Bells/141/96/23

On the south side of this teleport center is a Breedables Show hosted by The Borough. On December 17th at 5pm. they are having a One of a Kind Collectors auction. Featuring many different breedable pets. all proceeds go to Relay for Life. They will have remote bidding available also. This should be an epic event. Information cards are available at the signs posted right in front of the show entrance.

There is so much more going on here. I will continue to write about the events and vendors, but I don't want to give a simple overview. I will tell you what's in the nooks and crannies and where the presents are hid! :)
The Silent Night Lodge will be the site for some exciting events. Starting off tonight at 4-6pm: DJ Brooke Saiman. Inside there's raffles and silent auctions going on as well. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Poinsettia/26/19/24

Will keep you posted!

Avant Up To Good Again With Frets Nirvana and the Wounded Warrior Project

I here at another event Avant  (Avantgarde Frequency; previous blog on him: http://virtualworldblogger.blogspot.com/2011_11_06_archive.html )  is supporting the Wounded Worrior Project .

Being an army wife for 15 yrs., when I saw the notice I was there. And Avant was singing awesome as usual. Their goal is 175,000L. They are getting close:)
Below is the information shared with me by Frets Nirvana, who Avant says is the single most accomplished musician on the grid.

"Frets Nirvana and US Military Veterans Group announce November 27 Wounded Warriors Benefit concert.

Frets Nirvana, the premier guitar artist in the virtual world Second Life and US Military Veterans Group announce the eleventh in the 2011 series of monthly concerts for the Wounded Warriors Project to be scheduled for November 27, 2011.

More than 30,000 troops have been injured in recent conflicts, many of them suffering traumatic brain injuries, amputations, and severe burns.  Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) provides services and programs to ease their burdens and aid in the transition back to civilian life.

Initiated by Frets Nirvana and supported by the US Military Veterans Group in Second Life, this concert on November 27, 2011 is the tenth in the series to be scheduled monthly in 2011.  Frets Nirvana states “There are many great charitable organizations in the world that do great work. This is especially true in the United States.  However, without the sacrifices our Veterans make none of these other charities could possibly be supported because tyranny would prevail and good causes could not be supported.”    Further Frets Nirvana states “ In 2010 with the support of many in Second Life we were successful in sending over 175,000 Linden which is the equivalent of over $4400 to the Wounded Warriors Project.  We hope to reach the target of $11,000 in 2011. To emphasize that ...we have raised over $7600 US in 2011 so far.”
Wounded Warriors concerts will feature premier Second Life Talent the last Sunday of each month at Patriot Island.  The concert on November is scheduled from 4 -9PM PST.  Featured artists will be DJ Waya Snowpaw, PonDman Haalan, Alex Mays, Frets Nirvana, and Avantegarde Frequency.

ABOUT WOUNDED WARRIORS  - Wounded Warrior Project began when several individuals took small, inspired actions to help others in need. The resulting objective was to provide tangible support for the severely wounded and help them on the road to healing, both physically and mentally. What had been initially viewed as a small contribution (compared with what the warriors had sacrificed while serving our country) has become WWP's signature program:"WWP backpacks delivered bedside to wounded warriors."  Wounded Warriors program has developed significantly over the last several years to include advocacy, benefits counseling, caregivers retreats, coping/family services, peer mentoring, warriors to work and many other programs for the benefit of United States wounded veterans.

                                                     - END -"

They do this the last Sunday of every month, but December's event will be held on the 18th, at the
U.S. Military Veterans Center on Patriot Island.

Adventures Pay Off

Most of my time in SL is split between exploring SL and building. I spend hours and hours folling leads I find form one place to another, catologing the information I discover. One of those leads took me to marketplace to check on something and I find a HUD that pays you to visit the locations put in it. Now I know what these are for. Mostly to raise traffic. But I thought what the heck, could give me some good material and make a few lindens. Not that I am desperate for the money but why not since I travel all over the grid anyway.
I'll try it out and let you know if its any good.
First destination, Vanilla's paradise. Typical shopping mall with some lucky chairs and MM board.
Vaxet has some nice medeival, fetish and RP  clothes. Lotus Noir has nice men's clothes. The main attraction is the Miss Jewell store. Lots of styles here from vamp to bdsm. The clothes are vibrant and detailed. There's some mens clothes mixed in here too. There's a low target MM board upstairs as well.
Fum RP shopping destination.

Next the Hud sent me to a horse farm. It appears I did not get paid the 2L for my last destination, but I may have done something wrong because this time it tells me a different messege that I will get paid 2L after being here 2 min. And as promised I was just sent 2L.
I have been out of  Amaretto horses for awhile now so I dont know whats what anymore. But this looks like a pretty big farm. Lots of new things I didnt get to see. Brindles, braided manes, and something called the  Mecklenburger. Looks like highly traited horses and reasonable horse. I am leaving before I am tempted!
As I walk out the door I see soemthing called Gaia eggs. I better leave before I see what this breedable is.
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Liberty%20Heaven/29/169/37

There's an old west town across the way from the barn with some shopps too. Looks like a fun place to investigate, but I have a concert to get to. Avantgarde Frequency is playing at the Bonaire Grotto Club again and I need to sit and do nothing for a little while to get myself geered up for my new asian water garden build.
http://slurl.com/secondlife//160/183/1

Link for the HUD. And not all are 2L for 2 min, btw. Some are 15L for 13 min. It works and could be a fun way to earn a few lindens.

Leader In Second Life Living

A few days ago I happened to go to a concert at Bonaire Grotto to hear Avantgarde Frequency and discovered Bonaire Estates. I asked pup Witherspoon, co owner, for a tour and interview and she generously gave me about 4 hours of her time! (Pictures enlarge on click)

To say the very least I was highly impressed. Not just with the company she and her partner, Milano Ferrentino (a retired college professor), have created, but with pup herself ( Witherspoon~a retired technical consultant to the logistics, satcomm and software sector). She is brilliant, funny, and kind. To talk with pup is as easy as talking to your best friend. She shared many heart warming stories with me of family, friends and acquaintances in RL and SL and made me laugh many times. ( So much so I think I snorted twice...I don't think she caught the last one though :~P )  I doubt that people that get to know pup are acquaintances for very long, but become family and friends. She knows her residents and treats them with care and respect.  I could make a long list of excellent services and amenities of Bonaire, and I will talk about them, but the thing that I took away from the interview more so was values, experience and personality that pup and Milano have formulated into their company...their community.

Many land companies claim to have community but Bonaire doesn't just offer it, they practice it. Both pup and Milano told me that when managers start their shifts, which there are managers available 24/7, they open up group chat and say hello to their community and let them know they are there for them. And guess what...the community talks back! Its not easy to find a stable community in SL. At Bonaire, even their private island residents come in to their "mainland" to take advantage of their amenities.

Bonaire is situated north of the BOSL sims, home of all the top designers in SL. In fact residents can sail from their home docks right over to BOSL for world class shopping. There is over 900,000 sqm of  sailable water sims and open waterways available to tenants.

They require their Estate Managers to have technical  training in computers and SL so they can handle all their residents and the sims needs. Applicants are given in depth interviews and put through tests of their skills. Bonaire pays their staff one of the top commissions and salaries on the grid and has profit sharing for their employees. pup is very proud of her staff and calls them her front line and they affectionately call her mama pup:) She and her staff help residents in anyway they can. From assisting in teaching basic editing of their homes to terraforming. Educational notecards have been made in 10 languages for things like lag hints and tips for their tenants. Residents get the same level of service whether they are renting a large or small parcel. The events venues are open for residents to use free of charge for weddings, etc. Their events coordinator is available for advice on residents home events also.

They care how their residents feel about their experiences in Bonaire and SL in general, even letting residents vote if they want snow or not. They feel that just being able to fix sims is not enough. They want their tenants to enjoy their Second Life and feel that by helping them with the things that cause frustration in SL they can help their residents be more than just satisfied with their SL homes but really flourish and discover what the virtual world can offer. They truly are full service. Bonaire's price policy is that they will not increase rent unless Linden Labs raises teirs. Here though, you get way more than you pay for.

The beauty of Bonaire is breathtaking. The Country Club was designed and created by pup. Featuring tenant accessible rivers with draw bridges for boats to be able to travel the extensive waterways. Long bridle trails designed so certain types of horses won't get stuck on the sides. Wildlife abounds here. Specially chosen for their textures and low lag.

Pup's attention to detail and community in all things is apparent in her designs as well. She has made some special park areas for residents who commune together often. Taking special consideration of the closeness that they share in their land and lives. And never seems to cease to be impressed by her tenants talents and growth.

Bonaire attributes their 4 years of success to steady controlled growth. They make sure they have staff in place BEFORE expansion. At this time there are 420 estates at Bonaire and they average a 85% occupancy rate. Pup tells me that sometimes they allow their estate managers to design sims to give them creative opportunities.
                                    http://slurl.com/secondlife/Artisan%20Paradise/31/195/21

The Artisan paradise is full of amenities. Beginning with the yacht club. Views so stunning you can almost smell and feel the ocean. Artisan Yacht Club offers reasonably priced dock rentals connected to 17 sailing sims. Custom built furnished condos are available by Ericaanne Hastings (E'lan Fine Furniture & Accessories) centered around a champion pool and bar bound to soothe your cares away. Also a 7 Seas fishing kiosk and 3 music venues with events all week long.

Pup talked a lot about her ideas on the potentials of virtual worlds. She shared with me her experiences and knowledge of projects she has been a part of or knows of that used the virtual platform to help their communities, companies and the world. I had inklings myself  on this topic but what pup shared with me was inspiring and touching. We discussed the concepts of paralleled business in RL and SL, an idea that has laid in my mind since I saw the first book in SL. Her insights awakened my dormant thoughts to the realization that just because the opportunity has barely been tapped in SL doesn't  mean that I shouldn't go forward with my plans.

If you want to be part of a community with caring caretakers, superior recreation and real community, then you need to visit Bonaire Estates.
